Post Jam

The 2021 Dungeon Crawler Jam was a real blast, and an honor to take part of. Now that the voting process is over, I am glad to be able to update the project, because it was rough...veeeery rough. Welcome to the first major update of Rune Guy, and hopefully the only update needed to actually make the game properly playable for most of us.

Thank you to everyone who tried the game during the jam and to those that provided feedback, both over itch.io and in my friend groups. I would be honored if you would give the game a second try if you had previously attempted so.  And if this is your first trip into the world of Rune Guy: Welcome, this should be a more enjoyable experience.

Keep an eye out for another update, to be released in one week, that will balance the damage/essence and stats of the creatures in the game. And in the months to come, keep an eye out for feature expansions and further improvements.

If you come across a bug, please post it up on the itch.io so that it can be SQUASHED.

Much love and thank you for the read-through,

Evan

good fun :) and yes, the invisible object issue is still there. i picked up and moved nearby objects to continue onward, tho. keep working on this!

Thank you for the play, and for the input! I have been plenty wrapped up in my physical existence and have not updated this game as much as I have wished. I appreciate your encouragement and will try to get an update out asap!

Cool, the game's getting there.

The tutorial used to be serviceable, now it's also elegant. I think the last screen is still a pop-up which is a bit of a shame (https://imgur.com/8BLCsEy), don't hesitate to use the same inteface instead of a pop-up for the Victory screen as well.

I think it's still possible to get stuck behind an empty tile, it was in the entrance room of an area so it was not a case of being in the limit between two areas. By the way in most cases it does not matter but the transition between different parts can be annoying when you can't see a monster above while you're fighting against it.

I got this bug twice more or less at the same time and in the same place (and never otherwise) : https://imgur.com/bZuX1gb.

I think the only thing which is not that fun is that you can simply put your item on the floor then hide behind it, using it as a barricade, and the enemies can't do anything and will just wait to be killed. I'm not sure what the good solution is but I think that items not blocking the enemies at all would at very least not be worse.

Good job, I hope my points are decipherable enough.

Your points are decipherable and much appreciated! I will look into that error message you are getting, and It is a good point that I should avoid pop ups entirely when I can have the information be displayed in the same style as the tutorial.

I’m hoping to rework how areas are loaded, to allow enemies and items to be seen and cross thresholds. I’m hoping the new system will also allow for simultaneous movement of all of the enemies after you move; making the slight hang before movement is allowed again less noticeable in areas.

Good idea on ultimately allowing enemies to cross items. In the future I would love to make the more intelligent creatures able to interact with the essence of items in order to cast spells as well. For now, with only one attack type, the game certainly can become TOO easy as you hide behind items.

Thank you so much for your input CryptRat, it is properly helpful and I am honored you have taken the time to go into detail.
